This Saturday...

This Saturday our church and some other churches will be performing. We all have to show something that has to do with christmas. We have practice at church everyday after school. The priest put us into groups of two so two church's come together and practice one item.

I really enjoy practicing with other church's because we get to meet new people and make friends. I go to Panmure E.F.K.S it is a christian church.

Tagata Pasifika

Today was our lucky day because Tagata Pasifika came to our class room and did some filming. We were going to be shown on Tagata Pasifika on channel one.

The reason why they were here is because they were filming and interviewing us to see what we think what Christmas is all about. Some students in our class were very lucky to be filmed and interviewed. The interviewers name was Osone Okesene.

Vaha and Tule were the first to be filmed, Vaha said that it was very hard and unexpected. It sure looked hard. They were also filming us making our decoration with play dough.

It was really fun experiencing what it would be like in the future on TV. I had a lot of fun.

Netbook Reflection

It has been such a great year! Using our netbooks have been a really good challenge for us because some of us when we first received our netbooks didn't even know how to use it.

What I've liked about having a netbook is that I have something to do then rather sitting around doing nothing, watching T.V, eating and not doing my chores.

I just hate when the Internet is so slow because sometimes we cant do anything fun so we have to do it on Gedit text editor and application on our netbooks.

Things have really changed since I've gotten my netbook because my reading age has gone a lot higher because I've been reading more stuff on the Internet. Learning has also gone really fun because of our netbooks.

I've loved having my netbook.

Terrific Tennis

Terrific We were all lined up excited and ready to go to our first tennis session. His name was Marcel, he was a professional tennis coach from Auckland tennis club. The reason why we have tennis every Wednesday is because, every term we get to learn a new sport. The last sport we learning about was Aussie Rules (Kiwi Kick).

First he taught us how to hold a tennis racket they way it was meant to be held because, some of us were holding it like we were playing cricket. We were told to pair up with someone on the other side of the tennis net. It was to see who could it the ball to their partner and back the most. My partner was Victoria and we weren't really that good at it. I really enjoyed our first session with Marcel. I couldn't wait for second.

We were walking to tennis feeling excited. We got started straight away. First he taught us some tricks we could do using the tennis racket and the ball. Soon after that we were put into teams of 8. In those teams we had play against the others. The rule was who ever won their game got to move to the top of the court. Our team had won 2 games and lost 1. It was stink because it started to rain. We were all guttered that we had to stop our session. I had an awesome time at tennis I really improved from last week. I can not wait till Next week.

Through out all the sports we've learnt this year I think my favourite ones would be badminton and tennis.

Thinking Skills

This morning Ms Tito gave us a thinking activity. We had to solve a problem using the 5 objects we were given. We were focusing on our logical and thinking skills. We got put into groups of 3. How problem we had to solve was how will you get a cat down from the tree using these 6 objects. I had really fun listening to all the other peoples ideas on how they would solve their problem.

A Very Close Game Against All Blacks And France.

“GO FRANCE!” My dad was screaming as the French team were walking up while the All Blacks were doing the haka, my whole family were cheering for them, I knew that this was going to be a really good game.

Brrrt, as Piri Weepu had kicked the ball, it was an amazing start to the game. my dad, my brother and I were cheering the loudest. We were all dissapointed when Tony Woodcock got a try we knew at that time, that All Blacks might win.

After half time the french were playing really well. Soon after that they tumbled through their opositons then passed the ball to the magnificent Thiery Dusautoir and he got the try. The house felt like it was shaking from all the jumping by my family. YES! my dad shouted when he got the conversion.

At the end the winning team was the All Blacks. We were very disappointed that France lost. My favourite rugby player was Thiery Desautoir, he got the man of the match and Player of the year. I was so happy when they announced that news.

Aussie Rules

For past few weeks we have been having Aussie rules sessions with Micheal, and a few others. We have learnt a lot of new things especially how to drop punt the ball.Check it out.

Mrs Richards Stay With Us.

For the past 5 weeks we have enjoyed having a wonderful student teacher with us. Her name was Mrs Richards. She created a reward system for the people who kept their eye on the ball. The person who received the most ticks got a small prize pack. At the end of her stay the person with the most ticks for each week got to make Yum Cha Dumplings. I really enjoyed having her. It really helped me learn better. We will miss you Mrs Richards hopefully you come and visit us again.

Pt England Rugby Sevens Champions.

Last week the year 8 Rugby Sevens team went down to Tauranga to compete in the NZ AIMS games. They played against lots of school. They left on Sunday morning in two vans heading to Tauranga. They stayed in a marae for the week.

It was their 1st game against Cambridge Intermediate on Tuesday morning. Ms Tito had received a text message from Ms Va’afusuaga saying that the boys won their first game. They had won their second game, third game and so on. It was the semi finals and they had won. Thursday was the big day they played their grand finals. We were waiting for the final results.

The results had come. 'THE BOYS HAD WON!'. We celebrated for them it was a really proud moment for us, our boys were the New Zealand Champions. The coach for the New Zealand rugby sevens team 'Gordon Titeons’ watched some of their games. There was a rumour going around saying that our team was Gordon Titeons team. It was a real honour to have him watch their games.

At the end, our champions came to school and showed us their trophy and medals. We were very proud of them

Tuakana Teina Reading

Every Thursdays afternoons Room 22 (Yr 7 & 8 Class) and Room 7 (Year 2 class) come together in the library for Tuakana Teina Reading. Tuakana means Big brother/sister and Teina means little brother/sister. We were put into pairs with the juniors. There are a number of reasons why we do this.  The main reason is to work with the younger kids so they become whanau (family) and the second reason is so we (us seniors and juniors) get better at reading.  We have turns at reading to each other and it's alot of fun.  You should try it, maybe you have a junior class or senior class that you would like to start a Tuakana/Teina Reading programme.  It's for 1/2 an hour each week and we love it!

Why is learning about people in the global community important?

I think it is important because we need to have good relationships with different countries and people. I think it will be great if we could learn how to speak other countries languages. It’s also important to learn about people in our global community so that we know whats wrong and whats good like for instance if we were in a Samoan church and we started to text or to start eating in the church that wouldn't be the right thing to do .

Team 5 Challenge

‘Hooray!’ our class shouted when we heard Ms Tito say that today was going to be really fun. The whole of team 5 were going to have a fun challenge on the bottom field. After morning tea we were asked to get changed in to a change of clothes and line up. There were 4 stations we had to go to and at each station there was a teacher.

The first station we went to was Ms Tito’s. The point of Ms Titos game was to get any ball in to any hoop. There were different kinds of shapes and sizes of balls. 2 strong people had hold the big sling shot so that we could get in the hoop and so it wouldn’t be a hassle for us. The class who gets more balls in the hoop gets water balloons after lunch. At the end only Ms Tito and Ben got it in.

Our second activity was with Mr Harris. He told the rules and the instructions first so that we knew what to do instead of just mucking around. We had to get in to pairs. My partner was Maree. There was a piece of string, a spoon and a tennis ball. With the string we had to tie it around my left leg and her right leg then hold the tennis with the spoon and walk to the other side and back. Who ever came first were in the finals. Too bad Maree and I didn't come first.

My favourite station was Mrs Nua’s. It was my favourite because it involved getting wet. There was a bucket full of water in front of each line with a sponge inside and a empty bucket at the each of the line. We had to try get the water to the other side in the sponge by doing it in a routine. It was side, under, side, under. At the end line one which was my group had the most water.

I’d like to say thank you to all the teachers that were involved yesterday. It was a really fun day I really enjoyed it. Hopefully we get to do this another time.

Badminton

Room 22 had great surprise on Thursday. We were the first class to have a session with Laureen. She was a coach from the Auckland Badminton Club. She taught us some fabulous skills in our school hall.

She taught us how to control the ball by holding the racket upside down with your thumb facing down as well with your right hand and holding the shuttle with a straight hand on your left hand. We played a game when we had to try and get the shuttle in the bin.

Our next activity was to get a partner and a cone. The other partner holds the cone and the other holds the racket. The point of the game was to try and get the shuttle into the cone .
I had a really good time learning how to play badminton. Laureen was a great teacher I definitely can’t wait for our next session.

Highlight Of Term 2

This term has been fantastic. My highlight of the term was actually finishing our project we were given. I was very pleased when Ms Tito said that it was completed. Our project was to design furniture for the street and make it a place we love and respect in our senior block. My other highlight of the term was playing netball and rugby for the school.

The Design Process

This term we have been working through the design process. The first step was to identify a need. Our need was to make the street a place we love and respect and by doing that we had to design furniture for it.

We got to choose what we could design. There were plenty of options but Vaha and I decided we would go with partitions/walls. We researched for some ideas using our netbooks so that we knew what it looked like. We made sure that it was safe, practical, creative, and innovative.

The following step was generating ideas. We had to modify it to make it our own. When we were generating ideas we had to make sure we were able to visualise and image and new ideas.

I really liked working through the design process and seeing how it works. Vaha and I enjoyed it so much. Hopefully we have time to finish it and get to build it. This is our finish product.

Rugby League Session.

This is what I created on Picasa about our Rugby League Session.

Rugby League Session.

Yesterday morning we were lucky to have a rugby league session with one of the members from the Vodafone junior warrior squad. His name was Sio Siua Taukeiaho. Once we got there we were put into 4 groups of 7 or 8.

The first drill we did was a in and out one. The first team that got to five were the winners. Team one won of course. The second drill we did was my favourite one because it was all about trying to score a try. It was also the first on to three. You had to zig zag in between the people and once you got to the end you had to sprint to the end and score a try.

The very last drill we did was Kick Tennis. The aim of the drill was to try and get the other team out. You had to kick the ball to the other team if they didn’t catch and it landed next to you then that player was out. If you kicked it below the waist then the person who kicked it was out. This drill was really fun and interesting especially the name of it.

It was really fun training with Siua . Hopefully we get to do it again another time.

Science Road Show

Last week on Thursday the senior classes went down to the road show. We had to pay $7 to get in to the show.
It was held at Tamaki College. We all walked down class by class. It is part of our topic Bigger, Better, Faster, Stronger.

Before we left Ms Tito put us into groups of 4-6.I was one of the leaders for one group. In my group was me and 4 others ,Teari, Destiny, David and Ben. Ms Tito gave some digital cameras and flip cameras to some people to get some footage of the exhibit. Each group got given a work sheet to do but only I did it by myself the rest of my group were off goofing around the place.

My favourite exhibit was the theromen one. You put your hands over these metal plates and it would make a pitchy noise whether you put your hand close or far way. The one that I didn't like the most was the bubbling liquid because when I tried it, it didn't work.

I had a really good time at the road show hopefully there's going to be one next year. Fingers cross

The Design Process

In room 22 we have being learning about a design process. The design process has six steps to it, identify a need, research, Generating ideas, finding a solution, reflect and then evaluate. One of

Generating Ideas is one of the most important steps out of all of them. It is because if you’ve tried one of your ideas and they don’t work then you can go back to your other ideas.

There are all different materials you could use like metal, plastic, wood, cardboard.

I feel very confident about how my sign is going to work
out. I hope I have different ideas to others in my class

Swimming Lessons

For the last two weeks the year 7&8 students have been going swimming. During lunch time we would walk down to the G.I pools. Our teachers that took us were Ms Tito and Miss Dempster. We always go swimming in term 2 and term 4. The reason why is because if we are in a real life disaster then we might know what to do.

Second day of swimming was the best. It was probably the best day out of all of them because I hadn’t been swimming in a really long time I just felt over excited. It is very important to learn how to swim because In the future you might not know what will happen while your at sea.

I really like swimming. Its one of my strengths hopefully we have a great time at swimming in term 4.

My Grandma

I really think my grandma is a success not only because she has lived to 83 years, but many other reasons like this. My grandma married a Samoan priest and became what is known in Samoa as a ‘faletua’ which is in English the priests wife. The faletua in Samoan culture does all of the jobs in the church and runs the Sunday school. This is a very hard job in Samoan culture. She also survived her husbands death as well as one of her sons death. This was heart breaking for her but shes still with us stronger than ever! I love my grandma . I love her heaps!!!

Geometry

This week we have been learning about geometry. Geometry is the study of shapes, sizes and position of 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional figures.

We've learnt how to make perfect circles using compasses. Compasses are really useful and they come in handy in a lot of things for example if you needed to draw a face you could use the compass. Some of us have good spatial awareness that's why our circles look great like mine.

Geometry are one of my strengths. I really enjoyed it.

Taonga Time

Every Friday the year 7&8 students have a thing called Taonga Time. It is a time of learning about different passions of our teachers. If you don’t know what ‘Taonga’ means well it means treasure”.

We have different teachers for each group. Mr Harris takes science, Ms Vaafusuaga takes sports, Mrs Telea takes ICT, Mrs Lagitupu takes art, Mr Barks does team buildings, Mrs Nua does te reo maori, Mr J (the tall one) takes music and Miss T takes the kapa haka group. The group I’m in is Mr Barks .

Taonga time is a really special time for me because I get to spend a lot time with different teachers then my own.

Our First Netball Session

On Thursday the 5th of May we had a netball session with Emma. She is a helper from the Auckland netball courts. When we got to the hard courts Emma was waiting there. It looked like she was ready to teach us some super netball skills.

First we learnt some dynamic stretches like high knee’s, but flicks and the great vine. I already knew those stretches because those we’re some of the stretches we would do before our netball game.

After we learnt some skills we had a game of corner ball. we we’re split in to two mixed groups boys and girls. Our game was really fun it went really well . It was similar to netball but instead of a hoop there we’re cones.

I really enjoyed our netball session. I am really excited for our next netball session.

My Values DLO Term One

Last term we had a class project about the values. The values that I chose was 'HOPE'. First we had to create a story board for our slide show. I created mine on picasa. I hope you enjoy it.

Creativity

In Room 22 we have been learning about creativity. ‘Do you know what creativity means?’ if you don’t well now is your chance. Creativity is the ability to create new things with your own imagination. Creativity is a thinking skill. One of our tasks was to create our name using our own design. This is what I came up with. I hope you like it.

My Term 1 Reflection

One of the things I was pleased with last term was my art work. In my report I received excellence for habits, behaviour and academic progress I also obtained 12/12 in my rubric. It made me love art and want to do it more.

The subject that I was struggling on last term the most was writing. I want to improve on writing by not being distracted with the things on my netbook and to not muck around. In my report I received a below expectations for academic. I was kind of pleased because now I know what to work on.

Last term I felt that it went alright because there were some ups and some downs. The thing that I’m working on his term is to not be distracted by my friends or any thing else.

These are my DLO results:
